Who I Am

Hey guys.  My name is Otis and I love outdoor grilling.  In fact, I love to cookout so much that I decided to set up this blog.

Ok, I guess I should be a little more specific.

For me, grilling isn't just another way of cooking dinner, it's my passion!  Honestly, as long as I've got a grill to throw down on, life is manageable.  But there is a bit more to it than that.

You see, I remember in the old days (before the internet) it seemed like every man knew how to grill.  It was the sort of thing that was easily taken for granted while growing up.  All I knew in them years was that a friend or relative threw a party, invited people over and we all ate good.  Simple, right?

Well....then I grew up.  And inevitably when the summer months rolled around, I expected to eat me some barbecue.  At this point in my adulthood, I lived away from home so I had to figure it out.  And let's just say that I learned a lot from those first few attempts at grilling.  Boy, did I learn a lot!

Those rookie moments really jarred me.  It was then that I realized that not only is there a method to cooking good food on a grill, but there was also an art.  Well, suffice it to say that I made it my business to become my very own grillmaster.  But that was years ago.

Nowadays, I have arrived at a few key beliefs regarding a man and his grill;

  • There's more than one way to cook a burger (or a steak).  In other words, everybody has their way & that's ok.  To me, that's all the fun.
  • Being a grillmaster means that you can cook on a grill.  I've gotten outta the thinking that a dude had to know so-and-so or be expert at cooking such-and-such.  We don't all eat the same stuff, so a one-size-fits-all 'title' is ridiculous.
  • Outdoor cooking should be fun.  That is my most deeply held belief because this is such an enjoyable pursuit.  Enjoy it.
  • I am not an expert!  My claim to fame is that I have a passion for cookouts and am happy to share it with anyone.  I can honestly tell you that my loved ones prefer my cooking and I offer my advice based on this alone.
  • Don't be afraid to try!  This is the spice of life.  There are a number of dishes that I can make now that I absolutely sucked at when I first tried 'em.  But I learned from my mistakes and improved.  You can too.
  • Anyone willing can learn to grill quite well.  Yes, this means you.
Folks, I think you get the drift.  My sole intention is to be of service.  Truth is, I have picked up a thing or two while working on this blog.  I certainly hope that you do too.
